Purpose

This qualification provides learners with the foundational knowledge and practical skills required to support registered Social Workers in delivering social services to individuals, families, groups, and communities. Social Auxiliary Workers operate under the supervision of professional Social Workers, assisting in the implementation of intervention strategies aimed at enhancing social functioning and improving quality of life. The role focuses on hands-on, task-oriented support in various settings, including healthcare facilities, schools, non-profit organisations, and community-based services. Social Auxiliary Workers play a vital role in addressing the immediate needs of clients, facilitating access to resources, and promoting social well-being. This qualification prepares learners to contribute meaningfully to the social development sector in South Africa and lays a foundation for further professional growth within the field of social services.

Programme Duration

The programme is offered over a 12 Month period (one Year) and includes tuition, Work-integrated-learning / Practical training and course assessment.

Programme format

All classes are offered during the week on a full-time basis. Practical training and work integrated learning can be done at an accredited facility of your choice (SAWAS has the right to approve such facility at its own discretion) or you will be placed within one of our partner organisations.

Admission requirements

Grade 12 Certificate / Matric or Equivalent Qualification in a relevant Social Services field.

Learning Materials

All learning materials are provided by SAWAS. Students will receive printed versions of the study guides for the programmes.

Assessments and Certification

Internal assessments: There will be ongoing assessments for Knowledge modules in the form of Internal assessments and formative assessments. This includes practical and work integrated learning experience. SAWAS will ensure that the learners are prepared well and made ready to sit for the QCTO Final External assessment.

External Assessment: Student will write a compulsory External Integrated Summative Assessment (EISA) approved by the QCTO at the end of the course.

Certification: On successful completion of the programme, the student will receive a Certificate in Social Auxiliary Worker, Level 5, from Quality Council for Trades & Occupations (QCTO).

  • Latest School Results e.g. Matric Certificate, Statement of results etc.
