CPR for professionals was locally developed by the Resuscitation Council of Southern Africa and ensures that healthcare professionals are provided with the most current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) guidelines and practice.
CPR is performed when a patient has collapsed, is not breathing effectively and their heart is not circulating blood.
As a healthcare provider you may come across a person requiring CPR in or out of hospital. CPR is performed to ensure oxygenated blood circulation, specifically to perfuse the patient’s brain and heart. This enables the brain and heart to remain “alive” until a normal heartbeat is achieved and good perfusion to the brain is restored. In essence, CPR is used to bridge the gap between sudden cardiac arrest and the arrival of advanced medical interventions.
The Course is ideal for doctors, nurses, paramedics, medical technicians, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, doctor’s assistants, registrars, interns, medical and nursing students in training, aides, medical and nursing assistants and other health personnel.
The course is accepted as a prerequisite for advanced courses in resuscitation, including Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Advanced Neonatal Life Support (ANLS), and Local Instructor courses.
